Janakeeya Kavacham

The Janakeeya Kavacham (People's Shield) is a campaign launched by the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) in Kerala with the primary objective of combating the growing menace of drug abuse and the activities of drug mafias in society. The campaign seeks to protect youth and future generations from falling into the trap of addiction while addressing the fear and violence associated with drug-related crimes. As part of this initiative, DYFI conducts continuous interventions and awareness programs targeting children, youth, and adults. These include awareness drives to educate the public on the dangers of substance abuse, the formation of “Jagratha Samithis” (vigilance committees) at the local level to monitor and prevent drug use and the influence of drug networks, and public gatherings to foster community participation in the fight against drugs. Through these efforts, the campaign aims to build a collective “people’s shield” of community resistance against the spread of drugs in the state.
